George Kanis

George Kanis is a Greek virtual Artist, based in Athens-Greece, originaly born and raised at chios island. He is well known for his photographic work, although he also practices painting, video art installations, etc.

He was also involved with interior design and product design. But none of these mediums gave him the freedom toexpress his instincts. That gap photography and painting came to fill.

His aesthetic have not changed through the years but his work evolves like a growing organism and it always depends on desires that need to be nurtured and fed. For him art offers the ability to make chaos and freedom coexist in harmony.

He is known for his nude portraits of the people of the subculture scene of Athens and his experimental/abstract work. He employs a raw , brutal art style in order to emphasize on primal feelings during the photo shoots. He proudly explore questions of gender, class and some times race, mostly in Greek society .

YOU ARE NOT A ROBOT

Mixed Media and Collage on Paper,

Acrylics, Paint, Oil Markers, Enamel Paint

" George Kanis's visual works all represent raw unapologetic emotions. The vivid colours, placement of linear aspects and combination of overall colour palette create a whirlwind to necessary desire for questions and reflection.

Though abstract in some works, there is also a underlining of a clear story for some. As the viewer indulges into each painting, beneath each layer, George themselves reveals and introduces the viewer to be within the Artist's mind. You are taken on a journey through each paint stroke, the narration through George's collection of works begins to reveal itself. " - Sade English
