Tia Yoon

Tia Yoon's work explores the attempt and failure of communication, it addresses problems of social construct and experiments with lifting the boundaries of the binary mindset - through fantasies and especially regarding minorities.

Tia Yoon's, Netherlands based, is a Vietnamese Artist. Tia's evolution and signature approach to previous works that reoccurs throughout her collection of works. This approach explores the concept of post-humanism as reclamation of alienation in relation to biopolitics. It is a live form of biopolitics resistance waving a web of intersectionality of gender, sexuality, race and class.

YOU HAVEN’T BEEN SPOKEN TO

"Tia Yoon explores the truths and realities of living and existing within the Western world through her work. Tia's natural ability to express her own experience as well as challenge the viewers (western society) is perfectly narrated through her visuals. Whilst not conforming to one role, directing, choreographing and starring in her works, Tia's range multidisciplinary works embodies the Anticlone Movement.

Tia's existence does not conform to suit society; her visual work from film, performance and to canvas starts conversation's on all different takes on society, from gender, queerness, poc , conversations that are necessary from the western audiences, gaze and overall perspective." - Sade English

YOU HAVEN’T BEEN SPOKEN TO

Performance ft. Jieun Kim

2019

There is always a sense of radical tenderness in their works and insanity in strict structures. Tia Yoon wishes to create and occupy secure spaces, framed by broken narratives, through which they can communicate with their audience via theatrical performance, installations paintings and writings

Tia Yoon confronts society audiences through presenting bodies and collected voices of individual personal stories from the Asain queer community, whilst  living in the West.

Whilst expressing their unique story as a queer person of colour, Tia's work enables the viewers to share spaces, and most importantly make conversation between all.
